The Will Eisner Comic Awards announced it’s nominees last week on comic-con’s official website. London based, Indian comic writer Ram V was among the nominees for best writer category.
The nominees for the biggest awards ceremony in the comic industry, The Will Eisner Awards were announced last Wednesday. Often regarded as the Oscars of the industry, winning an Eisner award or even being nominated is a huge deal. Indian comic writer, Ram V, has made it to this list after being nominated in the best writer category for The Many Deaths of Laila Starr (BOOM! Studios); The Swamp Thing (DC); Carnage: Black, White & Blood, Venom (Marvel).
The London based writer is known for a lot of his work, writing one of India’s finest comic, Aghori, being one of them. Ram V started his journey from getting Aghori published by the holy cow entertainment in 2012. Soon after he self published his graphic novel Black Mumba in 2014 after moving to UK. The critical acclamation of the novel led to Ram’s Paradiso getting picked up by Image comics. This upward trajectory of his kickstarted a conversation between ram and his editor from DC about working on a batman comic.
Ram worked with DC in the Batman Secret Files – helmed, and with a framing narrative given, by Tom King and Mikel Janin, becoming the first Indian to do so. After working with renowned names like Image, DC and Marvel, Ram has earned the nomination provided to him by the comic-con.
From Urban fantasy to film noir and science fiction, Ram V has written novels from a wide range of genres making his work more commendable. Ram’s novel Blue in Green, in which he collaborated with Indian illustrator Anand Radhakrishnan won the Eisner award last year in the best painting category making Radhakrishnan the first Indian to win an Eisner award.
Will Ram take home his Eisner or not is a question that will be answered on 22nd July 2022 when the results will be announced at 2022 San Diego Comic-Con.
