Asvin Srivatsangam’s graphic novel ‘The Village’ is the first graphic novel from India that is being adapted into a series by amazon prime video.
Asvin Srivatsangam, a comic book publisher, has made history as Amazon Prime picked up his graphic novel "The Village" for a new web series, making it the first graphic novel to be adapted in India.
The Village is a horror comic set in Kattiyal, a small village near Kerala. The novel centres on Gautam Subramanian, a young doctor, and relates the story of what happens when he is confronted with the risks of tribal feuds, murder, and corruption.
The novel, written by Shamik Dasgupta, discusses social issues in India, such as the caste system. Asvin has stated "A conflict exists between the elite and lower classes. People of the lower caste have become socially marginalized. This is still a thing that happens in the actual world. As a result, our comic's tagline is "Sins of the past, nightmares of the future."
Yali Dream Creations, a publishing house founded by Asvin himself, is the publisher of the work. He pursued graphic design as a job as a comic book lover, but when it came to creating his own graphic novel, he discovered that finding a publisher was extremely difficult. As a result, he decided to start his own publishing company.
Since 2012, Srivatsangam has collaborated on a number of graphic novels with a variety of artists, writers, and visual graphic designers. He chose to create a comic that may be converted into a live-action film during the process. After prime agreed to direct the live action adaptation of the novel, what began as a daring text to Milind Rau quickly became a real-time undertaking.
The OTT platform has already issued a poster for the next series, and Tamil star Arya has been confirmed as the main character. The web series is scheduled to premiere in August. The series will be shot in Tamil and the most of the scenes will be shot in Tamil Nadu.
