Streaming platforms nowadays are filled with TV shows based on comics, most of them adapted from Marvel or DC. Here’s a list of 5 shows based on comics worth your watch apart from Marvel or DC.


1. The Umbrella Academy.



Umbrella Academy is based on Gerard Way's award-winning comic of the same name. Umbrella Academy is a Netflix original series about dysfunctional siblings with superpowers who band together to investigate the mystery of their father's death. The sitcom has already aired two seasons, with a third planned to premiere on June 22, 2022. The series is a fantastic mix of comedy, action, fantasy, and dark themes.


2. Locke and Key



Locke and Key is a fable about three siblings who move into a new house and discover keys that open doorways to new worlds. The series is based on the same-named comic by Joe Hill. It's a thriller-horror film that deals with loss and trauma. The first season of the show premiered in February of 2020, followed by a second season in October of 2021. The sitcom was renewed for a third and final season, just as the creators had expected.


3. Sweet Tooth



Sweet Tooth is another another TV show based on a comic that you should see. The series was created by Jim Mickle and is based on Jeff Lemire's comic book of the same name. The story follows a half-human, half-deer youngster in a post-apocalyptic world as he seeks a new beginning. The fantasy series is a family adventure produced by Robert Downey Jr. The series got renewed for a second season in June 2021.


4. Warrior Nun



The Netflix series is based on the Canadian comic Warrior Nun Areala and follows a group of nuns who utilise weaponry to fight evil powers that lurk on Earth. Warriors Nuns was initially conceived as a full film, telling the story of Ava, an orphan who died and was resurrected by a hidden society of nuns, giving her superpowers. The show premiered in June 2020 and received generally excellent feedback from viewers. In August 2020, it was renewed for a second season.


5. The Walking Dead



The Walking Dead is an excellent example of a small-time comic going large. The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman's black-and-white comic series about a group of survivors striving to survive in a zombie apocalypse. The series' storyline will keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat as you wait to see who will die next. The series debuted in 2010 and is presently in its eleventh and final season.
